Plant-based Fabric Dyeing Workshop

  • The Windmill Community Gardens Margate (map)

Kate’s Botanical Dying Workshops will offer an experience of techniques such as bundle dying with floral petals onto fabric and vat dying natural plants from the garden. Kate also works with imprinting the natural environment to create prints such as paper printing (via immersion dying) or working with plants to create pictures, such as natural anthotyping methods using the sun. Kate would like to encourage people to bring white tshirts that may have been stained by everyday wear to be redyed and revived.

This is an 16+ workshop (Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).

Kate has over 10 years running events and community projects particularly within the environmental space. With a background in sustainability and business, Kate is also an artist and ceramicist who is fascinated by the natural environment and our connections with each other. Passionate about nature and its ability to heal, Kate believes in the power of community craft to bridge gaps, build new skills and confidence and create resilient communities.

This workshop is a part of the Windmill Community Gardens Community Roots Programme which is a new project which has been funded by funded by Thanet District Council as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and we are extremely grateful to have this opportunity to collaborate with local facilitators and volunteers, to become a Community Hub for learning and wellbeing.
