Nature Friendly Farming

  • The Windmill Community Gardens Margate (map)

An introduction to the Nature Friendly Farming Network and the species of interest in and around the gardens that you can help support.
This talk will be an opportunity to learn more about the ways in which farmers and land workers can prioritise caring for nature, sustainable and future friendly ways to work with the land.

The Nature Friendly Farming Network (NFFN) is a UK farmer-led organisation working to mainstream nature-friendly farming as the most sustainable way of producing food. We encourage and support nature-friendly farming all over the UK, in ways that mitigate climate change, reverse biodiversity decline and safeguard the future of UK agriculture. More information here: https://www.nffn.org.uk/who-we-are

Operation Turtle Dove - Our work to help Turtle Doves has science at its heart. When this was first started, our focus was on identifying why Turtle Doves were declining and identifying ways to best help these iconic farmland birds. The project has now reached the stage of rolling out, at scale, measures that we know will benefit Turtle Doves.

You will also learn about the local wildlife, how to create nature friendly spaces and about our Windmill Turtle Dove! Stay for a walk around the gardens afterwards to see what wildlife you can observe!

All Ages welcome.

This talk will be held at the Windmill Community Gardens in Margate, a beautiful one acre community garden located in Dane Valley Margate, looked after and cared by the community.

This workshop is a part of the Windmill Community Gardens Community Roots Programme which is a new project which has been funded by funded by Thanet District Council as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and we are extremely grateful to have this opportunity to collaborate with local facilitators and volunteers, to become a Community Hub for learning and wellbeing.
